Mom to Mom
Hello, Sweet Momma! I see we have something in common. I'm a momma too.
I got somewhat of a late start, in comparison to my two sisters. I was Aunt Barb for 8 years before I brought baby girl #1 into the world at 29 years old. Two years later came baby girl #2. Four years after that, I was happy to announce baby #3. Maybe it would be a boy this time. It was. Now, of course, he needed a brother! So, three years later came my last baby at 38 years old. Oh yes, he begged for baby #5, but this baby-making factory had closed its doors for good!
Now, with my babies not being babies anymore, it's time to wait for grands. No. I'm not there yet, Momma, but maybe someday. Hopefully, while I'm still young enough to run after those little angels.
There's something about children that has always made me happy.
- Maybe it's their innocence.
- Maybe it's their unconditional love.
- Maybe it's the way they laugh or ask a million and one questions and never get tired of playing.
- Maybe it's the pure love of God in a little human form.
I don't know exactly, but we are part of an exclusive club that I love to be a member of.
I want to share a little about my life as a momma with you along this journey, and I'd love to hear your stories too. Hopefully, we can learn something from each other in the process. Let's face it, we are always learning and growing, just like they are.
It's scary and overwhelming being a new mom. It's scary and overwhelming being a mom of teenagers. And it's scary and overwhelming when all your babies aren't babies anymore and go off into the world to start families of their own. But as scary and overwhelming as it may seem at times, we have help. We have each other. We have all those mommas that came before us that can help guide us. What to do, and what not to do. Both lessons are worth learning from.
I've heard people say, "Kids don't come with an instruction manual." Guess what? They're wrong. They do. We don't only have each other to lean on and learn from. We have Jesus. He gave us the only instruction manual we will ever need to raise those beautiful babies into awesome adolescents, terrific teenagers, and amazing adults! It's all in there, and it all starts with LOVE.
- A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1
- Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2
- Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4
- Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Corinthians 13:4-8
Just keep loving them. They'll be ok, and so will you, dear Momma. Because no, they don't always stay this little. They don't always smell this good. But they do always need us, love us, and give us a reason to face another day, even when we don't feel like we can make it out of bed.
I have been a mom for 29 years, and I can honestly say, they have taught me more than I ever could have taught them. They are the best part of me. And for that, I am forever grateful. 🩷🩷🩵🩵
Children are a gift from the Lord;
they are a reward from Him.
